Christ is interwoven into the day; its not a once a week gathering- He’s the heartbeat of our school. Additionally, all of our students are homeschool students. Parents have chosen Masterpiece to partner with them in their child’s education. We work with kids from 9am-12pm and parents remain the primary teacher. Parents can continue the learning at home or teach additional topics. The possibilities are endless. We do offer a unit study approach to learning - no more bell determining when we do math, science, social studies, language arts, etc. Our learning is connected.

We use a combination of high-quality materials. Gather Round Homeschool, Reading Eggs & Eggspress, Math Seeds, KhanAcademy, CK12, Math Medic, gameschooling (no formal curriculum), KidVation, textbooks (as needed or desired), and more.

A unit study is an integrated approach where all subjects (except math) are connected to a central theme. For example, when we studied “Australia,” we covered the geography of Australia and the surrounding countries in Oceania. We discussed the history and culture in different regions of Australia and Oceania. Students practiced grammar in relation to Australia and had relevant spelling words. Some lessons included an animal like a kangaroo, Tasmanian Devil, Stone Reef Fish, and more. We also had a Bible lessons related to the character development and challenges some explorers faced in the early days. All subjects (except math). One theme.

Our day begins with a morning meeting in our respective groups (Seekers, Messengers, Disciples, and Ambassadors). In a morning meeting, the teacher will cover announcements, devotionals, and prayer. The remaining time students will work on individualized goals in reading and math with teacher support. Students will work in their classrooms to go through a discussion based, video-enhanced lesson and then receive time to work through their studies. We operate in the basement of Grace Baptist Church of Papillion (205 E Halleck St; Papillion, NE 68046). Our entrance is off of the east side of the building.

The older a student gets, the more likely they will have work to finish at home. We strive to make the 3 hours as full as possible and this does leave work to be completed at home. This may be completing unit study lesson pages, finalizing a math or reading lesson, or it may be independent reading time. Otherwise, the afternoon is a blank canvas for families to choose to spend as it best suits their family. A huge part of why Masterpiece is a half day is we truly want to reclaim time for the family again. Some families have quieter afternoons, some go to park meet ups, some handle doctor appointments, some do additional learning together, the options are endless.
